Patna: Nitin Nabin, a minister in the Bihar government, has been appointed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s national working president, the party said on Sunday, signalling a key step in its ongoing leadership transition.
The decision was taken by the BJP parliamentary board and announced by the party’s national general secretary, Arun Singh.
On Monday, Nabin offered prayers at a Mahavir temple in Patna before paying tribute to his father. He was scheduled to travel to Delhi on an Indigo flight departing at 8.25am, but the flight was delayed by around four hours, and he arrived in the capital shortly after 1pm.
At the BJP headquarters in Delhi, party workers prepared a traditional lunch to mark the occasion, with dishes including litti-chokha, puri-sabzi, curd-poha and makhana kheer.
The appointment comes as the BJP manages a change at the top of its organisation. JP Nadda was named the party’s national president in 2020; his term formally ended in 2024 and has since been extended. Nadda currently serves as the Union health minister.
