Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday inaugurated the second phase of the Kacchi Dargah-Bidupur six-lane bridge at Sabalpur, terming the project a landmark for connectivity in Patna and the Ganga’s Diara belt.
The 22.75 km-long bridge, supported by 67 cables and linked to Patna’s national highway, directly connects to JP Setu (Digha-Didarganj), which officials said will significantly ease traffic flow across the city. Bihar Assembly Speaker Nandkishore Yadav and former Raghopur MLA Satish Rai were also present at the ceremony.
The Rs 5,000 crore project was first launched in 2016 by CM Nitish at Mohanpur in Raghopur, in the presence of then Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and RJD chief Lalu Prasad. Nearly a decade later, the second phase has been completed, while work on the third phase continues.
The bridge includes about 10 km of elevated structure and 13 km of approach roads. With its opening, the distance between Patna and Vaishali district is expected to reduce sharply, providing major relief to commuters and boosting regional connectivity.
