Patna: Nitish Kumar has been unanimously elected leader of the NDA Legislature Party in Bihar, paving the way for his return as chief minister after the alliance’s sweeping victory in the state elections. He is expected to meet the Governor shortly to formally stake his claim to form the new government and is likely to be sworn in on Thursday.
The decision was taken at a meeting of NDA legislators on Wednesday, where leaders from all alliance partners submitted letters of support in Kumar’s favour. The JD(U) chief had earlier been chosen as the leader of his party’s legislature group, while the BJP elected Samrat Choudhary as its Legislature Party leader and Vijay Sinha as his deputy.
With the NDA securing a commanding mandate, the process of government formation has gathered pace, positioning Kumar once again at the helm of the state’s ruling coalition.
