Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar began the new year by travelling to his ancestral village of Kalyan Bigha early on Thursday to pay tribute to his late mother, Parmeshwari Devi, whose death anniversary also falls on January 1.
As per tradition, CM garlanded his mother’s statue at the Kaviraj Ramlakhan Singh Smriti Vatika and offered his respects. He is also expected to meet local residents and inquire about their welfare during the visit.
Authorities have tightened security across Kalyan Bigha and surrounding areas. A significant police presence has been deployed, with officers stationed at major intersections from Harnaut market to the village, to ensure the event proceeds smoothly. Senior officials, including SP Bharat Soni and Sadar DSP-2 Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal, have overseen preparations and instructed personnel to remain vigilant throughout the day.
Members of his family, including his son Nishant and his brother, are also participating in the commemorations. The annual visit underscores the Chief Minister’s longstanding tradition of returning to his roots to observe family and social customs on January 1.
