Patna: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar celebrated Raksha Bandhan in a special way this year. He tied a raksha sutra to a tree and planted a sapling at Rajdhani Vatika in Patna on Saturday. The event was also part of Bihar Vriksha Suraksha Diwas, a day started to raise awareness about protecting trees.
The tradition began in 2012, when Nitish Kumar launched the special day on Raksha Bandhan. The aim is to encourage people to plant more trees and take care of them, just as they care for family members. The chief minister said planting trees is very important to reduce the damage caused by climate change.
Large tree plantation drives are being carried out in the state under schemes like Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali. These efforts also promote eco-tourism and protect animals. The government hopes that such programmes will inspire more people to join in saving the environment.
The programme in Patna was attended by deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary, environment minister Dr Sunil Kumar, and other senior officials. Their presence showed the government’s strong support for linking cultural traditions with environmental protection.
