Muzaffarpur/Patna: A three-member team of the National Medical Commission (NMC) on Thursday inspected Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur to assess its proposal for increasing MBBS seats from 120 to 170.
The inspection team, comprising Dr Rajeev Nehra, Dr Lakshmikant Bharti and Dr Sanjay Meena, arrived at around 8am and continued its review until 8pm.
Dr Sanjay Meena said the inspection was being carried out on the basis of the seat enhancement proposal submitted by the institution.
Academic and clinical facilities reviewed
The team examined academic infrastructure, healthcare facilities, faculty availability and student training arrangements as part of the evaluation.
Departments including anatomy, pharmacology, pathology and microbiology were inspected. Faculty members and doctors underwent physical verification, while biometric attendance records were cross-checked to confirm staffing levels.
OPD, wards and operation theatres assessed
The NMC team also reviewed the hospital’s outpatient department (OPD), inpatient department (IPD), emergency ward and operation theatres.
Records of surgeries conducted in orthopaedics, general surgery, ophthalmology, ENT and gynaecology were examined. The panel also verified patient admissions and overall clinical workload.
Facilities in the radiology department, including CT scan and MRI units, along with the central library, were also assessed.
Focus on capacity for 170 students
According to officials, the inspection aimed to determine whether the hospital has adequate beds, equipment, trained faculty and clinical exposure to support the academic and practical training needs of 170 MBBS students.
Final decision to depend on NMC report
SKMCH principal Prof Dr Kumari Bibha said the inspection team appeared satisfied with the institution’s infrastructure and arrangements.
She said the college was hopeful of receiving approval for admissions against 170 MBBS seats in the upcoming academic session, subject to the NMC’s final report.
