Patna: Independent MP Pappu Yadav was granted bail on Tuesday by the MP-MLA court in Patna in a 31-year-old fraud case, but he will remain in Beur Jail following his remand in two new cases.
Yadav, who represents Purnia, had been held in Beur Jail since his arrest on Friday. He was brought to the court around 12:30 p.m., with proceedings for his bail plea beginning at 2 p.m. Observers noted that Yadav appeared in a wheelchair during the hearing.
The police have remanded Yadav in two fresh cases, including the Kotwali production and Buddha Colony cases, ensuring he remains in custody for the time being.
The original FIR, lodged in 1995, accused Yadav of illegally occupying a house. His arrest in the long-pending case triggered a tense confrontation between his supporters and local authorities. Following his arrest, Yadav underwent a routine medical examination before being returned to Beur Jail.
Yadav’s supporters have claimed the arrest was politically motivated, linking it to his recent raising of the death of a NEET student. His bail hearing was initially scheduled for Monday, but was postponed. Tuesday’s hearing concluded with bail being granted, though Yadav remains in detention due to the new cases.
