Patna: An important meeting of the Airfield Environment Management Committee (AEMC) was held on Wednesday to strengthen safety measures for flight operations at Jai Prakash Narayan International Airport.
The meeting was chaired by Animesh Parashar, divisional commissioner of Patna, and focused on improving environmental conditions in and around the airport.
Focus on cleanliness and monitoring
Officials highlighted that filth, open garbage and waterlogging in surrounding areas attract birds, increasing the risk of bird strikes — a serious threat to aircraft safety.
The committee emphasised the need for maintaining cleanliness within airport premises as well as nearby areas. Regular inspections, proper waste management and close monitoring of sensitive zones were strongly recommended.
Directions to departments
The chair directed all concerned departments and agencies to work in coordination to ensure better environmental management. Strict action was advised to prevent conditions that could attract birds.
It was also decided that meat and fish shops should not operate in the vicinity of the airport under any circumstances, with continuous monitoring to enforce compliance.
Coordinated efforts stressed
The meeting acknowledged the role of multiple stakeholders, including municipal bodies, airport authorities and the forest department, in maintaining safety standards.
Officials said that only coordinated efforts among all departments can effectively reduce bird strike incidents and improve aviation safety.
The airport administration reiterated its commitment to prioritising passenger and aircraft safety through sustained collaboration with all relevant agencies.
Among those present at the meeting were airport director CP Dwivedi, district magistrate Tyag Rajan SM, municipal commissioner Yashpal Meena, the director of Patna Zoo and other officials from concerned departments.
