Patna: Patna Airport is set to relocate three aircraft parking bays closer to its new terminal building in a move aimed at improving passenger convenience and operational efficiency.
Airport authorities said the shift will allow aircraft to park adjacent to aerobridges, enabling smoother boarding and deplaning. Currently, some parking bays are located near the runway, creating operational challenges for taxiway movement.
The relocation work is expected to begin next week and be completed within days, with approval already granted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Officials said the change would help streamline aircraft movement while enhancing the overall passenger experience at the airport, which is undergoing gradual capacity expansion following the construction of its new terminal.
With the relocation, the total number of functional parking bays at Patna Airport will increase to eight, up from six earlier.
Authorities are also planning to add three additional parking bays for smaller aircraft, including Dornier planes. A proposal for this expansion is expected to be submitted to the DGCA soon.
The new bays are also expected to improve facilities for air ambulances, which currently face space constraints and are often parked at the state hangar, leading to delays.
Airport officials said the planned changes are part of broader efforts to modernise infrastructure and improve services at the airport.
