Ambulance Catches Fire on Patna’s Atal PathPatna: A moving ambulance carrying a patient caught fire on Atal Path in Patna on Saturday, triggering a frantic rescue operation. The driver immediately stopped the vehicle, and passersby rushed to help pull the patient and four attendants to safety.
The blaze quickly damaged the rear interior of the ambulance, reducing seats to ash. At the time of the incident, the ambulance was travelling at over 40 km/h and continued burning for around 25 metres. Three fire brigade vehicles eventually brought the flames under control after approximately 27 minutes.
Amarjeet Kumar, who was in the ambulance, said his grandfather, Rajdev Ram, had been suffering from a long-term stomach illness. “We were taking him from Shri Sai Hospital to IGIMS and then back to PMCH when the fire broke out. The driver and I jumped out and opened the back gate to rescue everyone. Locals under the flyover helped by throwing buckets of water.”
Shopkeepers and residents in the area described a scene of chaos as people ran to help. “It was fortunate that the driver stopped in time. The patient was pulled out on a stretcher, followed by his family members. Locals brought water in buckets and gallons, and the fire was controlled within 20 minutes. The incident caused a one-kilometre traffic jam on Atal Path,” one shopkeeper said.
