Patna: The city administration has announced a strict enforcement drive to ensure that both private and government buses stop only at designated bus stands across Patna, including high-traffic areas such as Gandhi Maidan.
Divisional Commissioner Animesh Parashar issued the instructions following reports highlighting that buses often pick up and drop off passengers at unauthorized locations, contributing to traffic congestion and road accidents.
During a review meeting on Tuesday, Parashar stressed that roadside passenger pick-ups and drop-offs not only disrupt traffic flow but also increase the risk of accidents. “Proper coordination between the traffic police, transport department, and district administration is essential. Regular inspection drives are key to ensuring compliance,” he said.
The administration has instructed the District Transport Officer to identify all vehicles that flout these rules. Violators will face fines, and in repeated cases, bus permits may be revoked. Legal action against non-compliant drivers and operators has also been mandated.
The initiative also includes measures to improve the condition and appearance of bus stops, following directives from the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation. Officials said the move aims to provide relief to commuters, reduce congestion, and enhance overall road safety, with no tolerance for negligence.
