Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation has announced a structured plan to manage the rising stray dog population by setting up designated feeding zones in every ward of the city. Officials said locations are currently being identified across all 75 wards, and each site will be officially named “Feeding Point for Stray Dogs.”
According to civic authorities, a dedicated helpline number, 0612-2200634, has also been issued for residents to register complaints or suggestions related to stray dogs. The initiative aims to streamline feeding practices and help officials track the number of strays, which will support sterilization efforts.
Officials stated that the plan is also intended to improve public health and sanitation. At present, many residents feed stray dogs along roadsides, which can spread saliva and increase the risk of disease transmission. Concentrating feeding at fixed locations is expected to reduce such risks and prevent leftover food from being scattered, which often leads to garbage accumulation.
Civic officials added that once dogs become accustomed to eating at designated spots, they will return to those locations instead of roaming widely, helping maintain cleanliness in surrounding areas. Each feeding zone will display the name of the locality and administrative circle for easy identification.
The move follows a campaign conducted in November in which authorities carried out anti-rabies vaccinations and sterilization drives across all wards to control the stray dog population.
