Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched an extensive cleanliness drive as part of preparations for Swachh Survekshan 2025, the annual national cleanliness survey. The initiative focuses on improving sanitation in schools, parks, and tourist sites across the city.
Nine parks and gardens have been earmarked for special attention, including Hardinge Park in Ward 21, Eco Park in Rajvanshi Nagar, and Buddha Park on Fraser Road. Other sites include Energy Park, Vivekananda Park, Amrit Udyan Park, Shivaji Park, and Pokhar Park. PMC officials said efforts will include repairing broken benches, installing dustbins, providing drinking water and toilet facilities, and enhancing overall cleanliness.
Schools are also part of the initiative, with five schools identified in each municipal zone. A total of 30 institutions—including Kendriya Vidyalaya, Rajendra Public School, Ganga Devi Mahila College, and Litra Valley—will host cleanliness programmes and receive upgraded facilities.
Eight tourist locations are being prepared for the survey, exceeding the minimum requirement of six. Sites include the Bihar Museum, Planetarium, Bapu Tower, Golghar, Kumhrar Park, Science City, Patna Devi Temple, and Gurudwara. Officials highlighted that Bapu Tower and Science City are new additions, while sanitation improvements at Golghar aim to address longstanding “yellow and red spots.” Efforts will also include repairing fountains and improving toilets and drinking water access.
The municipal corporation has identified 85 garbage points across the city, where targeted cleaning drives will begin immediately. Awareness programmes will be conducted alongside the clean-up to engage the public. The campaign began on Makar Sankranti, and comes after Patna received a three-star rating in the Garbage Free City category last year, when 658 garbage points were cleared.
