Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation has cleared 85 identified garbage accumulation points across the city as part of a drive under the government’s “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign, officials said on Thursday.
The clean-up operation involved sanitation workers alongside local residents, who were also administered a pledge to dispose of waste responsibly and use municipal collection systems rather than dumping refuse in open areas.
According to the civic body, the targeted sites were identified as “cleanliness target units” across six administrative zones. The highest number of sites were cleared in the Nutan Rajdhani Zone (26), followed by the Patliputra Zone (18), Bankipur Zone (11), Kankarbagh Zone (10), Patna City Zone (10) and Azimabad Zone (10).

The municipal corporation said it operates daily waste collection through a door-to-door service for residential areas and a separate road-to-road system for commercial and non-residential establishments. Despite this, officials noted that illegal dumping in open plots, along roadsides and into drains remains a recurring problem, often leading to blocked drainage systems and increased public health risks.
The corporation added that it had previously cleared around 650 garbage points in earlier special drives, with regular maintenance continuing at those locations. However, it said new dumping sites continue to emerge in some areas due to persistent open waste disposal and feeding of stray animals near roadsides.
To address the issue, the civic body has reiterated its appeal for public cooperation in maintaining sanitation standards and using designated waste collection services. It has also urged residents to report missed collections or other complaints via its toll-free helpline 155304 or the number 9264447449.
