Patna: Patna is set to roll out a QR code-based fire safety verification system for coaching institutes as part of a wider push to strengthen compliance and transparency in student safety standards.
The initiative follows increased scrutiny of coaching centres after a fire incident in Lucknow prompted administrative reviews of safety preparedness in educational institutions.
Digital Safety Verification System
Under the proposed framework, each coaching institute will be issued a unique QR code linked to its fire safety compliance record. Scanning the code will allow students, parents, and visitors to access key safety information instantly.
The system is being developed under the supervision of District Fire Officer Ritesh Pandey, with officials stating that the aim is to make safety data publicly accessible and verifiable.
Mandatory Safety Disclosure
Coaching institutes will be required to submit detailed information through a multi-page digital form. This will include registration details, building layout, student strength, and the number of entry and exit points available for emergency evacuation.
Details of fire safety equipment, including extinguishers and alarm systems, will also be recorded and verified through physical inspections.
On-Site Inspections to Continue
Authorities have clarified that the QR-based system will operate alongside regular on-site inspections. Surprise checks will continue to ensure that the information provided by institutes matches actual conditions on the ground.
Officials have identified 106 coaching institutes where fire safety arrangements were found to be inadequate during initial inspections.
Year-Round Monitoring Plan
The drive is expected to continue throughout the year, with QR codes displayed at the entrance or visible areas of coaching institutes after verification. The administration aims to maintain continuous monitoring and compliance enforcement across the sector.
