Patna: Doctors at Ford Hospital in Patna have successfully removed a 3kg fibroid from the uterus of a 48-year-old woman after performing a complicated surgery. The woman, identified as Sunita Devi (name changed), a resident of Nagariyawan in Gaya district, had been suffering from abdominal pain, heaviness, and irregular menstrual cycles for the past few years. What initially started as a small fibroid detected during an ultrasound grew steadily over time. She ignored the early signs, assuming the problem was not serious, until her condition worsened and her abdomen began to swell abnormally.
When she finally visited Ford Hospital, doctors conducted detailed tests and found a large fibroid weighing around 3kg in her uterus. The medical team decided to perform surgery immediately, as the lump was putting pressure on her internal organs. The operation was carried out by gynaecologists Dr Jagriti Bhardwaj and Dr Anita Singh, with the support of senior surgeon Dr Santosh, Dr Kumar, Dr Alok Kumar, and Dr Prabhat Ranjan. The surgery was considered extremely challenging because the fibroid was attached to the intestine, increasing the risk of heavy bleeding.
According to Dr Jagriti Bhardwaj, “This case was very difficult because the fibroid was large and stuck to the intestine. There was also a risk of excessive bleeding, and the patient’s blood group was AB negative, which made it hard to find matching blood. However, with quick coordination between our doctors and the hospital administration, we managed to arrange blood from several blood banks in Bihar and successfully complete the operation.”
After the surgery, the patient was kept in the intensive care unit for monitoring. Her condition gradually improved, and she has now fully recovered and been discharged from the hospital. Dr Bhardwaj advised women to take symptoms like irregular menstruation, abdominal pain, or swelling seriously and get tested in time. She said that early diagnosis and proper treatment can prevent serious health complications in the future.
