Patna: The rising waters of the Ganga have once again disrupted daily life in the capital, with the administration closing vehicle access along the Ganga Pathway after floodwaters submerged several connecting roads.
By Saturday afternoon, water levels had climbed over the embankment road near Bhadraghat, Mahavir Ghat and Naujar Ghat. At Mahavir Ghat, water reached knee height, submerging the steps of the temple and forcing authorities to shut its main gate. Worshippers were warned that rituals and bathing in the river posed immediate danger.
Despite the risks, two-wheelers and small vehicles were seen wading through submerged stretches between Bhadraghat and Kangan Ghat, while children played in the water. Officials said such behaviour was inviting tragedy, as the pathway had effectively merged with the swollen river.
Sub-Divisional Officer Satyam Sahay and SDPO Rajkishore Singh inspected the ghats, ordering barricades and signage to be installed. “The rising water has once again increased the difficulties for residents. Women and children should stay away from riverfront temples and avoid bathing in the Ganga,” Singh said.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel deployed at Bhadraghat have been placed on alert, with district officials emphasising constant monitoring of the situation.
