Patna: Patna is preparing for the festival season with a new Ganga Swachhata campaign. The drive will begin before Chhath Mahaparva and will focus on cleaning the ghats and spreading awareness about hygiene. It is being organised by Namami Gange under the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation. The campaign will start from Digha Ghat and then move to other ghats in the city.
Officials said the campaign will work like a moving awareness bus, spreading the message of cleanliness from one ghat to another. A special feature will be a three-tonne “cleanliness bell”, built like a clock tower, to remind people to keep the riverbank clean.
Along with the ghats, the city’s streets are also getting attention. Under the Jagmag Patna programme, 50 new street lights will be installed in every ward this month. So far, 3,750 lights have been purchased and repair work of older lights is already underway.
Patna Municipal Corporation is also planning to set up cleanliness corners at puja pandals during the festivals. Officials have warned that people throwing garbage on the streets will face heavy fines. With Dussehra, Diwali and Chhath coming soon, the city is working to look cleaner and brighter than ever before.
