Patna: The INDIA alliance will begin a major campaign in Bihar on Sunday. Called the Voter Rights Yatra, it will be led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav. The yatra will start from Sasaram and will continue for 16 days, covering 25 districts of the state. The aim of the march is to raise people’s voice against changes in the voter list.
The yatra will start with a public meeting at Suara Airport in Sasaram. Rahul Gandhi will first land at Gaya airport and then reach Sasaram by helicopter. From there, he and Tejashwi Yadav will begin the journey together. On the first day, the yatra will go from Sasaram to Dehri on Son and then to Aurangabad, with a night halt at Kutumba.
During the 16 days, the leaders will walk, hold meetings and talk to people in towns and villages. The yatra will pass through Gaya, Nawada, Jamui, Munger, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Araria, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Champaran, Siwan, Chhapra and many other districts. In total, it will cover nearly 1,300 km, with two rest days in between.
The campaign will end on 1 September with a big rally at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Leaders of all alliance parties, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Dipankar Bhattacharya and Mukesh Sahni, are expected to join. The yatra is seen as both a fight for voter rights and a show of strength ahead of elections in Bihar.
