Patna: The Vigilance Investigation Bureau arrested a government school headmaster in Patna’s Sampatchak area on Tuesday after he was allegedly caught accepting a Rs 50,000 bribe in a trap operation linked to the issuance of marksheets and College Leaving Certificates (CLCs).
Complaint Triggered Vigilance Action
According to officials, the action followed a written complaint filed by Arun Kumar Singh, a resident of Gavaspur in Sampatchak. Singh alleged that the headmaster was demanding illegal payments from students who had passed their secondary examinations.
Based on the complaint, a preliminary inquiry was conducted and FIR No. 076/26 was registered at the Vigilance Police Station after the allegations were found credible.
Alleged Rs 400 Per Student Demand
Investigators said the accused headmaster, identified as Kunal Priyadarshi, was allegedly collecting a commission of Rs 400 per student. The case involves 152 students who had reportedly cleared the annual examination at the upgraded higher secondary school.
Officials said the demand was linked to the release of essential academic documents, including marksheets and CLCs.
Trap Operation Inside School Office
A special team led by Vigilance Deputy Superintendent of Police Vindhyachal Prasad laid a trap inside the school premises.
Officials said the complainant visited the headmaster’s office and handed over chemical-laced currency notes worth Rs50,000. The Vigilance team, which was already stationed nearby, moved in immediately and arrested the headmaster on the spot.
Custody and Further Proceedings
After the arrest, the accused was taken to the Vigilance Bureau headquarters in Patna for questioning. Officials said he will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court after completion of legal formalities.
Statewide Anti-Corruption Drive
Officials said this is part of an ongoing crackdown on corruption in Bihar. According to Vigilance Bureau data, this is the 76th FIR registered in 2026 related to corruption cases, while 71 trap arrests have been made so far this year.
Authorities added that 70 government officials have been jailed in similar cases in 2026, with total bribe recoveries amounting to Rs 27,55,300.
