Patna: Security agencies conducted a high-alert mock drill simulating a terrorist attack and hostagin the Buddha Colony area on Monday, testing the preparedness and coordination of emergency response forces. The exercise involved local police and the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), who carried out a joint operation to assess their ability to respond swiftly to a potential terror threat.
The simulation took place at Hotel Taj in the Lodipur locality, where three individuals acting as dummy terrorists entered the premises and staged a grenade blast at the main entrance. The attackers were shown carrying weapons resembling AK-47 rifles and grenades to create a realistic threat scenario. Officials said the objective was to replicate real-world conditions and evaluate operational readiness.
Following the simulated explosion, the attackers overpowered security personnel and took hotel guests and staff hostage, triggering a full-scale emergency response. The hostage situation continued for around 90 minutes, during which authorities assessed response time, coordination between agencies, and evacuation procedures. Hotel staff and occupants had been informed in advance to ensure the drill was conducted safely and without panic.
Police personnel quickly secured the area by setting up barricades and establishing a security perimeter around the hotel. The exercise also demonstrated how local police alert specialised units such as the ATS and coordinate tactical intervention to neutralise threats. Officials documented the operation for review and future training purposes.
Authorities said such exercises are essential to strengthen preparedness in the face of evolving security challenges. They added that regular mock drills help improve inter-agency coordination and ensure that law enforcement personnel are equipped to respond effectively in real emergency situations. Officials clarified that the operation was a planned training exercise and there was no actual threat to public safety.
