Patna: Patna Junction, one of the busiest areas in the city, is finally getting relief from daily traffic jams and crowded footpaths. The Patna Municipal Corporation has created a modern vending zone called Crispy Corner near the multi-level parking area opposite Buddha Smriti Park. This step is meant to remove illegal encroachments and food carts from the roads near the station and Mahavir Mandir, which often cause long delays and unsafe walking conditions for commuters.
The new vending zone has been developed on land that earlier had scrap shops and piles of garbage. Now the area has been cleaned and converted into a landscaped complex spread across nearly 12,500 square feet. The space has been divided into two main parts. The larger section will be used by food vendors selling popular street snacks, while the smaller section will be for sellers of electronic items. The ground has been paved with strong blocks, and proper lights have been installed so the area stays safe and clean, even during the rainy season.
As per the instructions of municipal commissioner Yashpal Meena, about 100 carts located between the station roundabout and the Mahavir Mandir–mosque stretch will be shifted to this new place within the next one or two days. Officers from the New Capital Zone have spoken to the vendors and assured them that their jobs will not be affected. They have also said that no police action will be taken against them, as the relocation is meant to support them, not punish them.
This project is part of a larger plan to organise street vending across the city. A similar vending zone is also being prepared near Digha Roundabout for vendors removed from the area around JP Ganga Path (Marine Drive). Work has already started to level the ground after shopkeepers agreed to shift. Once ready, this new zone is expected to improve facilities for tourists and reduce roadside crowding, helping Patna move towards cleaner and better-managed public spaces.
