Patna: Patna Mayor Sita Sahu has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that her family is being unfairly targeted following a controversial board meeting of the Patna Municipal Corporation and subsequent action against her son, Shishir Kumar.
In her letter, Sahu claimed that “inappropriate and illegal” actions were being taken by police against her and her family. She urged the Prime Minister to initiate an inquiry into the events that unfolded during and after the board meeting held on July 11.
One of her key demands was an explanation as to why police conducted a raid at her residence without a warrant. Sahu alleged that the incident may be part of a larger political conspiracy and called for an independent investigation into the matter. She also questioned the role of the Municipal Commissioner, Animesh Kumar Parashar, accusing him of boycotting the board meeting despite 80% of councillors being present and key proposals being passed.
The controversy escalated further after Shishir Kumar, Sahu’s son, issued a legal notice of Rs 5 crore for defamation to Commissioner Parashar. The notice refers to statements made to the media, in which Parashar reportedly called Kumar a “criminal” and alleged he entered the meeting with weapons. The notice demands a public apology within seven days, stating that the remarks have severely harmed Kumar’s reputation.
The municipal board meeting itself was marred by chaos, with several ward councillors accusing Shishir Kumar of attending without authorisation, abusing members, and even physically assaulting them. It was alleged he arrived accompanied by a bodyguard and armed. A formal complaint has been lodged at Gandhi Maidan police station.
