Patna: Shishir Kumar, the son of Patna mayor Sita Sahu, has signalled his intention to contest the forthcoming Bihar assembly elections after securing interim relief from the high court in a string of criminal cases.
Kumar, who is a member of the BJP’s state working committee, visited the party’s office in Patna this week and met senior leaders, saying he would seek a ticket to stand in the polls. His appearance came days after the Patna high court restrained police from arresting him in a case linked to alleged violence inside the Patna Municipal Corporation.
The mayor’s son has been at the centre of repeated controversies in recent years. He has faced allegations ranging from assault and intimidation to possession of weapons. Multiple first information reports (FIRs) have been lodged against him, including a case at Alamganj police station last year accusing him of assaulting a municipal data entry operator. Another case, filed earlier this year at Kotwali police station, alleges that he abused and attacked a deputy commissioner of the corporation.
Kumar has also been accused of harassment and misconduct towards women employees, as well as threatening staff with dismissal.
