Patna/ Sasaram: The Mahagathbandhan launches its ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar today against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi set to flag off the 16-day campaign from Sasaram, joined by RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav and other alliance partners, before culminating in a grand rally at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan on September 1. The yatra will traverse more than 1,300km and cover 25 districts through a mix of padyatras, public meetings, and outreach events, pausing on August 20, 25, and 31 for rest and coordination.

The route spans western, central, and north Bihar—beginning at Saura Aerodrome Ground near Dehri (Rohtas), moving through Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Munger, Katihar, Purnia, Supaul, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, West Champaran, Saran, and Bhojpur—before the Patna finale, with local administrations preparing traffic and security plans for large turnouts. Opposition parties allege the SIR has led to wrongful deletions and disenfranchisement of migrants, minorities, and the poor, while the Election Commission has defended the exercise; a recent Supreme Court intervention directing publication of proposed deletions and acceptance of Aadhaar in claims has sharpened the debate.
Congress leaders frame the march as a campaign for electoral integrity and voter rights, with the slogan emphasizing defeat for “vote thieves,” while the administration in Rohtas and other districts has coordinated permissions and arrangements for the events. The yatra mirrors the alliance’s broader push to mobilize youth and first-time voters, leveraging prior mass-contact efforts and joint opposition platforms across the state ahead of upcoming assembly elections.
