Patna: Construction work on the Patna Metro is progressing across both metro corridors, with officials indicating that Khemnichak station is likely to be completed between October and November. Once the station is ready, metro trains will begin stopping there on the Bhootnath-Malahi Pakri section.
The update was reviewed by Sandeep Kumar R. Pudakalkatti, Secretary of the Urban Development and Housing Department and Managing Director of the Patna Metro project, during a progress meeting with project officials.
Khemnichak Station Nears Completion
According to officials associated with the project, work on Khemnichak station has entered an advanced stage and is expected to be completed by October-November.
After commissioning, Khemnichak will become an operational stop between Bhootnath and Malahi Pakri, expanding the number of stations where trains halt on the currently running section.
Next Phase: Khemnichak to Mithapur
Officials said the next operational extension will depend on the completion of Mithapur station.
Once Mithapur station is ready, metro services are expected to be extended from Khemnichak to Mithapur, taking the project into its next phase of operations.
Underground Stations and Tunnels Under Construction
Work has also begun on all underground stations and tunnels between Malahi Pakri and Patna Junction.
Project officials said a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) has already completed tunnelling between Moin-ul-Haq and Rajendra Nagar. The tunnelling work connecting all eight underground stations is targeted for completion by November.
80% of Underground Stretch Reportedly Complete
According to project officials, around 80% of the construction work on the 8-km underground stretch between Malahi Pakri and Patna Junction has been completed.
This section is considered one of the most significant phases of the Patna Metro project because it includes multiple underground stations in densely populated areas of the city.
Current Metro Operations
At present, Patna Metro services cover five stations, but trains are stopping at only four stations:
- ISBT
- Zero Mile
- Bhootnath
- Malahi Pakri
Khemnichak is expected to be added to the list of operational stopping stations after construction and commissioning are completed.
Traffic Changes on Bailey Road
To facilitate metro construction, the administration plans to implement phased one-way traffic arrangements on Bailey Road.
One-way traffic measures have already been introduced near Vidyut Bhawan and Vikas Bhawan, and further decisions will be taken after consultations with traffic officials.

During the review meeting, officials examined the progress of every construction package and section of the Patna Metro project, including station construction, tunnelling work and traffic management measures.
