Patna: The Patna Metro project has moved into a faster phase of execution following a high-level review aimed at accelerating construction and ensuring the early delivery of key sections of the network. Senior officials said tighter monitoring and focused planning would help remove delays and bring critical stations into service sooner.
An intensive meeting was chaired by Sandeep Kumar R. Pudkalkatti, secretary of the Urban Development and Housing Department and managing director of the Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRCL). The session brought together PMRCL officials, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) team and other stakeholders to take stock of the project’s current status and identify roadblocks.
Rather than limiting discussions to routine updates, the review examined each stretch of the metro corridor in detail. Officials compared planned targets with actual achievements, evaluated on-ground progress and assessed operational challenges. Constraints affecting timelines were discussed at length, with departments directed to address them urgently.
Pudkalkatti emphasised the need to expedite construction while maintaining strict quality and safety standards. He prioritised the early opening of the remaining two stations on the Priority Corridor, describing them as essential to improving connectivity and public confidence in the system.
The broader goal, officials said, is to ensure faster execution and a more commuter-friendly transport network for Patna’s growing population. With closer supervision and coordinated action, the administration hopes the metro will soon provide residents with a reliable and efficient alternative to the city’s congested roads.
