Patna: Authorities in Patna are set to escalate measures against the owner of a hotel implicated in the recent gang rape of a minor in Danapur. The Range Inspector General (IG) Jitendra Rana has directed investigators to pursue charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which includes provisions related to child pornography, and has indicated the possibility of sealing the hotel.
IG Rana’s directive came during a case review, where he also announced disciplinary action against the former Kankarbagh police station in-charge for failing to register a case promptly. The incident gained further notoriety after an obscene video, filmed in the hotel, was circulated, falling under the purview of child pornography laws.
Hotel Under Scrutiny for Lapses
Police investigations have revealed significant irregularities concerning the hotel’s operations. It was discovered that the age and identification of individuals booking rooms were not properly verified. Furthermore, the identity card provided by the perpetrators had an unclear picture, and the hotel register lacked crucial details such as the name and address of the person who booked the room. Authorities are also scrutinising whether the establishment possessed a valid operating license.
Property Confiscation and Ongoing Investigation
In a move to apprehend the absconding hotel operator, police confirmed they will issue a warrant and proceed with property confiscation.
The case dates back to July 22, when a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at the Danapur police station detailing the gang rape of a minor. According to the allegations, the accused befriended the student on Instagram, lured her to a hotel in Danapur, and recorded an illicit act. They then used the video to threaten her, compelling her to return to the hotel where the gang rape occurred. Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the case.
