Patna: Indian Railways is set to introduce an Amrit Bharat Express service connecting Patna with Mumbai, expanding long-distance rail links from Bihar to one of the country’s largest metropolitan centres.
According to railway officials, the proposal forwarded by the East Central Railway through its Danapur division has received approval from the Railway Board. Clearances have also been granted by the Prayagraj division of West Central Railway, paving the way for operational preparations to begin.
Officials said a provisional timetable for the Patna–Mumbai Amrit Bharat Express has been drawn up and is expected to be finalised by the end of January. The service is currently planned to run three days a week, though the final schedule will be confirmed after operational orders are issued.
The proposed Mumbai service follows the launch of Amrit Bharat Express trains on key routes from Bihar, including Patna to Anand Vihar Terminal, Muzaffarpur to Cherlapalli, Darbhanga to Madar Junction and Chhapra to Anand Vihar. At present, 13 Amrit Bharat Express trains pass through Patna and other parts of the state.
The Railway Board has indicated that a further 26 Amrit Bharat Express services are planned nationwide, with the Patna–Mumbai route among them. Railway officials say the expansion is aimed at improving passenger convenience and easing congestion on busy long-distance corridors.
The addition of the Mumbai service is expected to strengthen rail connectivity for Bihar, alongside ongoing line construction and network upgrades, and provide a faster and more comfortable travel option for passengers heading to western India.
