Patna: Patna’s municipal commissioner Yashpal Meena carried out an on-site review of several ongoing infrastructure and smart city projects on Saturday, calling for strict quality control, faster execution and improved public facilities. The inspection covered works being implemented by the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Patna Smart City Limited (PSCL), with officials directed to meet deadlines without compromising standards.
Among the projects reviewed were a dedicated vending zone near Patna Junction, a common facility centre at Mithapur, the corporation’s new administrative building, a garbage transfer station in Gardanibagh, and a multipurpose hall in the S.K. Puri area. Development and beautification works at Khatal Gali and Mandiri Nala were also assessed.
At the vending zone near Patna Junction, the commissioner said the initiative aimed to provide street vendors with a safe, organised and dignified workspace while reducing congestion on nearby roads. Authorities were instructed to prioritise sanitation, drainage, lighting and smooth traffic movement to ensure the space remains both functional and accessible.
The Mithapur Common Facility Zone, being developed by Patna Smart City Limited, is expected to serve students, small business owners and daily wage workers. During the visit, the commissioner stressed that construction quality must not be compromised. He also inspected the under-construction municipal headquarters, a B+G+4 structure, and directed officials to complete it on schedule to strengthen the corporation’s administrative operations.
Solid waste management featured prominently during the inspection of the new garbage transfer station in the New Capital Circle. Officials said the facility would streamline waste collection and transportation, improving hygiene and reducing environmental impact. Meanwhile, the multipurpose hall in S.K. Puri is being designed as a venue for social, cultural and community events, with instructions given to accelerate progress.
At Mandiri Nala, behind Lady Stephenson Hall, the corporation is converting land cleared of encroachments into a landscaped public space with greenery, walkways and improved layouts. The commissioner described the project as part of a broader effort to make neighbourhoods cleaner and more welcoming for residents.
Concluding the visit, the commissioner said the civic body’s goal extended beyond building structures to creating a more liveable city. Regular monitoring and inspections, he added, would ensure projects are completed on time and deliver tangible benefits to the public. Engineers and officials from both PMC and PSCL accompanied him during the review.
