Patna: Patna is set to see a major overhaul of its civic amenities in 2026, with the municipal corporation announcing plans to develop 26 permanent vending zones across the city, modelled on the successful Kadamkuan scheme. The initiative aims to provide dedicated spaces for street vendors while reducing encroachment and easing traffic congestion.
Under the proposal, 10 vending zones will be created in the Patliputra area, four in Bankipur, seven in Nutan Rajdhani, and five in Kankarbagh. Additional sites are being considered in the Azimabad and Patna City zones.
The municipal corporation also outlined plans for road and footpath construction and repair, alongside extensive drainage improvements to address persistent waterlogging issues.
Mayor Sita Sahu, Deputy Mayor Reshmi Kumari, Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena, and Deputy Municipal Commissioner Rajan Sinha met on Wednesday to finalise the framework for 2026’s developmental projects.
Waste management and renewable energy projects
Building on progress in 2025, the corporation intends to set new standards in urban waste management. Door-to-door waste collection and segregation of wet and dry waste were strengthened last year, alongside the launch of an integrated solid waste management project.
The project will see the establishment of a 15 MW waste-to-energy plant, a 100-tonne-per-day bio-CNG plant, MRF/RDF units, a 700-tonne-per-day composting plant, and a scientific sanitary landfill, promoting sustainable waste disposal and renewable energy generation.
Lighting and sanitation improvements
Additional street lighting is planned following a comprehensive survey, with the installation of new lights and high-mast towers to improve safety across the city.
The municipal corporation will also expand its network of public toilets, with special emphasis on “Pink Toilets” for women, offering modern, hygienic, and well-equipped facilities in busy areas and along major roads.
City beautification
In a bid to enhance the city’s visual appeal, the corporation will commission vibrant wall paintings in selected public spaces. The murals will feature a diverse range of artistic themes and a balanced mix of colours, adding a creative flourish to Patna’s streets.
