Patna: The municipal commissioner of Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) Yashpal Meena carried out a field inspection on Saturday across wards 11, 12, 13 and 14 under the Nutan Rajdhani zone, assessing the progress of civic projects and the condition of public services.
The inspection covered drainage systems, water supply projects, sanitation, street lighting and other civic facilities. Local councillors and senior civic officials accompanied the commissioner during the visit.
Officials said the exercise was aimed at identifying bottlenecks and improving service delivery ahead of the monsoon.
Drainage project in Beur delayed over pipeline clearance
During the inspection, the commissioner reviewed a proposed drainage project in the Beur area, where technical and administrative issues linked to an Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) gas pipeline have delayed implementation.
Engineers informed the commissioner that a major drain construction project, planned by Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO) from Beur More to DPS, is intended to strengthen drainage and reduce waterlogging during heavy rainfall.
However, the proposed alignment passes through the influence zone of the IOCL gas pipeline, and the required No Objection Certificate (NOC) is still pending.
Officials said the delay could affect efforts to address recurring waterlogging in the locality.

Water supply project also awaiting NOC
A separate PMC water supply pipeline project has also been affected for similar reasons.
The proposed pipeline lies close to the gas pipeline’s right of way, and officials said work cannot proceed until necessary clearances are secured.
PMC and BUIDCO officials said they have been in communication with IOCL to resolve the matter.
Commissioner directs faster coordination
The municipal commissioner instructed engineers to strengthen coordination with IOCL officials and expedite the process of obtaining approvals.
He directed that all pending projects should be completed within set timelines to minimise disruption to public services.
Focus on sanitation and civic services
Beyond project reviews, the commissioner also inspected civic conditions in Punjabi Colony, Sai Nagar, Gardanibagh and Mahadevpuri.
He assessed sanitation, waste disposal, drain cleaning, street light functionality and other public amenities.
Officials were directed to address deficiencies and improve preparedness in areas vulnerable to waterlogging during the monsoon.
Councillors and officials attend inspection
The inspection was attended by ward councillors Ravi Prakash (Ward 11), Savita Sinha (Ward 12) and Geet Kumar (Ward 13), along with the additional municipal commissioner (sanitation), executive officers of the Nutan Rajdhani zone, engineers from the water supply board and other civic staff.
PMC said regular inspections will continue to monitor infrastructure projects and civic maintenance across the city.
