Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has constituted 19 Quick Response Teams (QRTs) to strengthen its preparedness for the monsoon and improve the city’s response to waterlogging.
Municipal Commissioner reviewed the preparedness of the newly formed teams during a meeting held at the PMC auditorium on Wednesday, issuing directions aimed at ensuring swift drainage and coordinated action during heavy rainfall.
Focus On Vulnerable Areas
The Municipal Commissioner instructed the QRTs to maintain constant surveillance over identified waterlogging-prone locations within their respective zones.
Teams have been directed to conduct regular inspections of manholes, catch pits and drainage slabs, and immediately report any damage or obstruction to the concerned officials.
They have also been instructed to move into the field as soon as rainfall begins to facilitate the rapid clearance of blocked drains and ensure the smooth flow of stormwater.
Dedicated Vehicles And Equipment
Each Quick Response Team will be provided with a dedicated vehicle to enable continuous patrolling during rain and facilitate prompt intervention wherever required.
The teams will coordinate with drainage pumping stations, drains, installed pump sets and operational staff to ensure uninterrupted drainage operations across the city.
According to the Municipal Commissioner, every team has been equipped with raincoats, torches, gloves and other essential safety equipment for field operations.
75 Wards Divided Into 19 Zones
The civic body has divided Patna’s 75 municipal wards into 19 operational zones, with each Quick Response Team comprising one Zonal Inspector and two sanitation workers.
The zonal distribution covers all six municipal zones:
- New Capital Zone: Zones 1–4
- Patliputra Zone: Zones 5–8
- Kankarbagh Zone: Zones 9–11
- Bankipur Zone: Zones 12–14
- Patna City Zone: Zones 15–16
- Azimabad Zone: Zones 17–19
Each team has been assigned a specific group of wards to enable quicker response and better coordination during the monsoon season.
Monsoon Preparedness
The Municipal Commissioner said effective drainage management, rapid response and close coordination among field teams would remain the corporation’s top priorities throughout the monsoon.
The initiative is intended to minimise waterlogging, improve emergency response times and ensure that drainage systems remain functional during periods of heavy rainfall.
