Patna: Patna’s civic authorities have stepped up preparations for the upcoming Swachh Survekshan cleanliness survey, with senior officials pledging tighter monitoring and greater coordination to improve the city’s ranking.
A workshop was held on Sunday at the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) headquarters to review progress and outline strategies for Swachh Survekshan 2026, the Government of India’s annual assessment of urban sanitation. The meeting was chaired by the municipal commissioner and attended by the additional municipal commissioner, executive officers and senior staff.
Officials discussed national benchmarks under the survey, focusing on solid waste management, cleanliness of public spaces, grievance redressal systems, citizen participation and the use of technology for regular field-level monitoring.
Addressing the workshop, the municipal commissioner said improved outcomes depended on systematic preparation and accountability. He directed officials to conduct gap analyses, implement corrective measures, intensify information, education and communication campaigns, and further strengthen grievance redressal mechanisms to ensure complete on-ground cleanliness before the survey begins.

A detailed action plan is being prepared to secure full marks across all categories in Swachh Survekshan 2025, with clear timelines and responsibilities assigned for each task.
To ensure compliance, the commissioner announced that progress would be reviewed daily through video conferences at 7am and 10pm. He told officers and staff that continuous monitoring and timely reviews were essential to sustaining improvements.
Patna’s performance in the national cleanliness survey has shown steady progress in recent years. The city received a three-star rating in the previous assessment.
Officials said the workshop was intended to align employees at all levels around a shared objective, stressing that Swachh Survekshan should be seen not merely as a ranking exercise but as a broader effort to improve urban quality of life. Greater inter-departmental coordination, continuous oversight and public involvement were highlighted as key priorities.
The Patna Municipal Corporation also appealed to residents to support the initiative by keeping public spaces clean, following prescribed waste management rules and actively participating in cleanliness campaigns under the theme “My City, My Responsibility”.
