Patna: A major accident was narrowly avoided in the heart of Patna on Froday evening when a car fell into a deep, water-filled pothole near the New Market area, close to the Kotwali police station. Two passengers inside the vehicle were rescued safely, though the incident caused temporary chaos on the surrounding roads.
Eyewitness Saifi Ahmed described the scene: “The car was coming from New Market when suddenly its wheel got stuck in a pothole, and the car sank into the water-filled pit. Half of it was submerged in an instant, but people present at the scene rescued both passengers safely. Fortunately, no one was injured.”
Police from Kotwali station arrived soon after the incident and, with the assistance of a JCB, pulled the car out of the pit. The two passengers were taken to safety, while traffic in the area was briefly disrupted.
The accident highlights ongoing public concern over the state of Patna’s roads. Excavation work for drains, road widening, and repairs is underway across the city, but in many places, potholes and open pits remain uncovered, posing serious risks to motorists and pedestrians alike.
Residents and shopkeepers expressed frustration over repeated incidents. “Such accidents happen regularly, yet the responsible authorities pay little attention,” said one local shopkeeper. “Roads are dug up and left unattended, which not only disrupts traffic but endangers lives.”
