Patna: Residents of Patna’s Gardanibagh area are set for major relief from December as Piped Natural Gas (PNG) will be supplied directly to homes. For thousands of families who have long relied on LPG cylinders, the move is expected to eliminate the stress of booking and refilling cylinders and dealing with delayed deliveries. Authorities believe this shift will make cooking easier, safe and more economical for consumers.
GAIL India has confirmed that preparatory work for the PNG network is almost complete. The main pipeline has already been installed, and final safety inspections and testing of household connections are underway. Engineers said that PNG supply will start immediately after the final safety clearance. According to experts, PNG is not only safer for domestic use but also significantly reduces gas expenses and minimises the risks associated with cylinder storage and leakage.
To ensure uninterrupted supply, two Distributing Regulating Stations (DRS) have been set up—one in Gardanibagh and the other in Mithapur near the bypass. These stations are connected to the Beur gas line and will support the PNG network in surrounding areas such as Kachi Talab, Road No. 15 and 16, the area behind Bapu Tower, and MLA residential areas. Most pipelines are now in the final phase of testing and inspection.
GAIL India shared that nearly 46,000 households in Patna have already registered for PNG connections, and 26,000 families are currently receiving supply. The company aims to expand services further in coming months to connect thousands more consumers across the city. Residents are also being advised to ensure proper inspection of gas appliances to safely receive PNG.
Local residents are welcoming the development with enthusiasm. Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Gardanibagh, said, “We have been waiting for PNG for a long time. Getting gas directly into our homes will save time and reduce our household budget. It is a great relief for families like ours.” The initiative is also expected to support the use of cleaner and more environmentally friendly energy in Patna.
To maintain smooth operations, GAIL India has set up a helpline and service centre for technical assistance and will regularly inspect the supply network and equipment. Registration, pipeline inspection and activation are the basic steps consumers need to complete to start receiving PNG.
The launch of PNG in Gardanibagh marks a significant milestone in Patna’s move toward modern and sustainable urban energy. With the service expected to begin in December, families will soon experience uninterrupted, safe and affordable gas supply—without ever lifting or booking a cylinder again.
