Patna: Patna police created a major breakthrough on Sunday night when they uncovered an illegal gun factory operating from a flat in the Shahpur police station area. Officers raided flat number 607 in Agrani Homes and recovered a range of weapons, including finished and semi-finished pistols, cartridges, and tools used for manufacturing. Two men, later identified as Awadhesh Kumar Verma and Aman Kumar, were arrested at the scene. Police confirmed that the flat was being used both to make new firearms and repair old ones.
City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh said that during the raid, officers recovered four country-made pistols, four magazines, two semi-finished magazines, and 58 cartridges. In addition, they seized ₹30,500 in cash and four mobile phones. The flat also contained equipment such as hammers, drills, screwdrivers, and cutters, which were being used to produce and repair weapons. Police described the operation as organised and capable of supplying weapons to several local areas.
During interrogation, Awadhesh Kumar Verma admitted that he learned weapons-making skills during his ITI training and later started this illegal business. Police said the accused supplied firearms to the Danapur, Phulwari, and Masaurhi areas, and that these weapons were reportedly used in crimes like liquor smuggling, land disputes, and murder. Awadhesh also confessed that he had sold guns to more than 100 people, with each pistol sold for between 40,000 and 45,000 rupees. Materials for making weapons were procured from Ara.
Police have said that the investigation is ongoing to identify people who bought the weapons and other associates of the accused. A case has been registered under relevant legal sections, and officers are monitoring potential buyers and links to criminal activities. City SP Bhanu Pratap Singh stressed that the operation is a serious threat to public safety and that authorities are committed to stopping illegal arms trade in the city.
