Patna: A tragic incident has come to light from Patna, where a serving policeman allegedly died by suicide late on Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Havildar Navraj Sunar, who was working as a reserve guard with Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP) 1. The incident took place in the area under the Secretariat police station in Patna at around 11pm, sending shockwaves through the police department and among his colleagues.
According to police officials, Navraj Sunar had been suffering from several health problems and was under severe mental stress for a long time. It is believed that his ongoing illnesses and emotional distress may have pushed him to take the extreme step. As soon as information about the incident was received, local police reached the spot and began an investigation. The body was taken down from the noose, and the room was carefully examined by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team for evidence.
The body was later sent to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna, where a postmortem examination was conducted. In a statement issued by Patna police, officials said the exact cause of death would be confirmed only after the postmortem report is received. Senior superintendent of police Kartikeya Sharma said the initial investigation points towards suicide.
During the investigation, police recovered two suicide notes from the room. One note reportedly mentioned the officer’s medical condition and the pain he had been suffering. In the note, he is said to have described the difficulties and stress caused by his illnesses. Another note, written in Nepali, was addressed to his family members and contained personal messages.
Colleagues of the deceased officer and personnel from the Gorkha Battalion were present during the postmortem process. At the time of the report, his family members had not yet arrived in Patna. After the postmortem was completed, arrangements were made to send the body to his ancestral village in Nepal for the final rites.
The incident has once again highlighted the mental and emotional pressure faced by police personnel, especially those struggling with illness and personal stress. Police are continuing their investigation, and more details are expected after the final postmortem and forensic reports are released.
