Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation has collected nearly Rs 11 crore in property tax revenue between April 1 and May 7, while offering a 5% rebate to taxpayers under provisions of the Bihar Municipal Property Tax Rules, 2013.

According to civic officials, a total of 35,948 property holders paid their taxes during the period, collectively saving around Rs 40.11 lakh through the rebate scheme.

Patliputra Zone Leads Tax Collection

Among the municipal zones, Patliputra recorded the highest collection, generating more than Rs 3 crore from over 10,000 holdings.

The zone-wise collection figures released by the corporation showed:

  • Azimabad Zone: Rs 92.54 lakh from 5,230 holdings
  • Bankipur Zone: Rs 1.67 crore from 5,362 holdings
  • Kankarbagh Zone: Rs 2.39 crore from 6,174 holdings
  • Nutan Rajdhani Zone: Rs 2.11 crore from 6,691 holdings
  • Patliputra Zone: Rs 3 crore from 10,264 holdings
  • Patna City Zone: Rs 52.45 lakh from 2,227 holdings

Majority Of Taxpayers Opting For Online Payments

Officials said around 60% of taxpayers in the 2026-27 financial year used online payment methods to deposit property tax.

In addition to the civic body’s official portal, residents are making payments through UPI-based platforms such as Paytm, BHIM and Google Pay.

The corporation has also continued offline payment facilities through cheques, demand drafts and cash deposits at zonal offices and the PMC headquarters.

PMC Extends Counter Timings

Last year, between April 1 and May 7, the corporation had collected approximately Rs 13 crore from around 47,000 holdings.

Officials said extended counter timings had been introduced this year to encourage more taxpayers to avail the concession scheme.

PMC counters are currently operating daily from 9am to 7pm.

The civic body has also begun sending SMS reminders to major defaulters, urging them to clear dues on time and take advantage of the rebate facility.
