Patna: Land acquisition for the Kanhauli-Sherpur stretch of the proposed Patna Ring Road is being accelerated, as authorities move forward with a key infrastructure project aimed at easing congestion in and around the state capital.
Officials said that 74 landowners from the Bihta and Maner zones have applied for compensation, with the process of verifying land documents currently under way. Campaign camps were organised in February to collect applications and facilitate the process.
Landowners whose properties fall within the acquisition zone have also been submitting documents to the district land acquisition office, as authorities seek to streamline compensation payments.
Once compensation is disbursed, construction work is expected to begin between September and October, after the monsoon season. The project requires the acquisition of approximately 177 acres of land for the Kanhauli-Sherpur segment.
The ring road is intended to divert heavy vehicles away from the city, allowing them to bypass congested urban areas and significantly reduce traffic pressure within Patna.
The project is estimated to cost Rs 777.79 crore, with funding to be shared equally between the central and state governments. Initial financial hurdles have reportedly been resolved, clearing the way for progress.
Plans for the project include the construction of a major junction near Kanhauli, which will connect multiple key roads. A ramp of around 1.5 kilometres is also proposed to link the Kanhauli roundabout, further improving traffic flow.
The ring road will pass through Patna, Saran and Vaishali districts, and is expected to connect with major infrastructure projects such as the Sherpur-Dighwara Ganga bridge and the Kacchi Dargah-Bidupur bridge.
Once completed, the project is expected to improve connectivity to regions including Ara, Buxar, Gaya and Vaishali, while easing travel for both freight and passenger vehicles.
