Patna: With a view to alleviating traffic congestion and jams in and around the state capital, state police have taken a decision to install traffic signals and high capacity CCTV cameras in 20 locations of the city.
The signals and CCTVs will be installed in key areas under Patna Municipal Corporation especially in outer regions such as Bypass, Zero Mile and other locations falling in Danapur Nizamat.
“We have identified more than 20 points for installation of traffic signals along with high capacity CCTV cameras. The proposal for the same will soon be sent to the Transport department…. The installation of signals and CCTV cameras will help ensure better and smooth management of traffic in the city,” Additional Director General of Police (ADG), Traffic & Modernisation, Sudhanshu Kumar told reporters here at a press conference held at Sardar Patel Bhawan, the police headquarters.
Areas falling under Danapur nizamat and colonies located near Bypass are currently not covered under the network of signals and CCTV cameras, Kumar said and added that signals and CCTV cameras are required to be installed in these areas as they face problems in traffic management.
“There are 20-22 points where signals will be installed after carrying out survey for the purpose and necessary proposal will be sent to the authorities concerned,” ADG said.
NINE DIV HQ TOWNS BEING COVERED UNDER SAFE CITY SURVEIILANCE SCHEME
The nine divisional headquarters towns of the state are being covered under “safe city surveillance” scheme for installation of traffic signals and CCTV cameras, ADG said and added that the work is currently underway in six out of nine divisional headquarters towns.
Besides, a survey is being carried out in the remaining 27 districts of the state for installation of traffic signals and CCTV cameras and a proposal will be sent to the authorities concerned along with expected financial outlay for clearance in the next financial year, he said adding that these traffic signals will be equipped with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras.
BSAP-1 HEADQUARTERS TO BE BUILT AT 30 ACRES OF LAND IN PATNA’S NAUBATPUR
ADG said that 30 acres of land has been identified in Naubatpur circle of Patna district for setting up its headquarters’ building and other facilities.
A sum of Rs 40.5 crore was sanctioned for the construction of infrastructure facilities and building of BSAP-1 headquarters, known as Gorkha battalion which is reserved armed police unit headquartered in Patna, in Nauabatpur circle of Patna district, Kumar said.
The construction work of BSAP-1 building is likely to begin in next financial year, he added.
Besides, Rs 49.78 crore was also sanctioned for construction of various other police building projects, ADG said and added that the funds will be utilised for construction of four police station buildings, one office of Superintendent of Police (SP), one office and a residential building of Superintendent of Police (SP) and one each office and residential building for two circle police inspectors.
