Patna: Patna Sahib Railway Station is set to receive direct connectivity with JP Ganga Path as construction of a new four-lane road between Patna Sahib and Patna Ghat enters its final stage. Officials expect the project to be completed by July, significantly improving road access for commuters and traders across the region.
The project includes a 1.55-km-long, 30-metre-wide four-lane road being built on the former railway corridor between Patna Sahib Railway Station and Patna Ghat. Service lanes are also being developed on both sides to facilitate local traffic.
Flyover Work Also Progressing
Construction of the flyover at Malsalami is progressing simultaneously. Once both the flyover and connecting road are completed, commuters travelling via JP Ganga Path will be able to reach Patna Sahib Railway Station directly through Patna Ghat.
The new route will also offer seamless connectivity from Patna Ghat to Ashok Rajpath, improving traffic movement in the eastern part of the city.
Work Accelerated After Land Transfer
Road construction gathered pace after the Railways transferred the required land to the Bihar government. According to officials associated with the project, the final stretch connecting Patna Sahib Railway Station with JP Ganga Path is likely to be ready by July.
The first phase connecting JP Ganga Path to the roundabout near Patna Ghat has already been completed and is open to traffic. The ongoing second phase includes the construction of the overbridge and the connecting approach road up to Patna Sahib Railway Station.
Travel Time Across Patna to Reduce
The new road is expected to substantially reduce travel time for residents travelling from Digha, Gandhi Maidan and Gayghat to Patna Ghat through JP Ganga Path, despite the dense urban layout of Patna City.
The improved corridor will also benefit passengers arriving from North and South Bihar by providing quicker access to Patna Sahib Railway Station.
Boost for Trade and Wholesale Markets
The project is expected to improve connectivity to Marufganj and Mansurganj, two of eastern India’s major wholesale markets. Easier access will help traders transport food grains, grocery items and other commodities more efficiently to different districts across Bihar.
With the completion of the project, both passenger movement and commercial transportation in Patna City are expected to become faster and more convenient.
