Patna: The district administration in Patna has extended the suspension of classes up to class 5 in all private and government schools until June 2 in view of prevailing heat conditions.
The order, issued on Thursday by District Magistrate Dr. Thiyagarajan S.M., applies to government schools, private schools, Anganwadi centres and play schools across the district.
Authorities said the move was aimed at protecting young children from heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
Revised Timings for Classes 6 to 8
Under the new directive:
- Classes up to class 5 will remain suspended until June 2
- Students in class 6 to 8 must be dismissed by 10:30 AM
- No restrictions have currently been imposed on classes above grade 8
The district administration directed all educational institutions to strictly comply with the order and warned that action would be taken against schools found violating the instructions.
Earlier Restrictions Extended
Schools for younger children in Patna had already been closed last week due to high temperatures.
At that time, restrictions were scheduled to remain in effect until May 26. The administration has now extended the closure period by another week.
Heat Conditions Continue Across Bihar
The intense heat experienced across Bihar in recent weeks has disrupted academic activities in several districts.
Officials said the earlier closure order was imposed specifically because of heatwave-like conditions affecting children.
However, authorities noted that there is currently no official heatwave situation prevailing in Patna or other parts of Bihar.
According to weather forecasts, rain is expected in the capital on Friday and Saturday, which may bring temporary relief from the heat.
On Thursday, Patna recorded a maximum temperature of around 36 degrees Celsius.
