Patna: In a major administrative shake-up in Patna, five station house officers (SHOs), including the SHO of Kankarbagh police station, have been removed from their posts after allegations surfaced of failing to register a rape victim’s complaint.
The incident, which unfolded in the heart of the capital, has sent shockwaves through the police administration. The victim had approached Kankarbagh police station seeking to file a rape complaint. Instead of registering a Zero FIR—as mandated in such cases—SHO Mukesh Kumar allegedly redirected her to Danapur police station, violating standard protocol.
Following the public outcry, Bihar Police Headquarters ordered immediate action. SHO Mukesh Kumar was sent to the police line, a transfer considered punitive within the force. In addition, four other SHOs—Manoj Kumar (Sultanganj), Abdul Haleem (Pirbahor), Dushyant Kumar Singh (Chowk), and Amarendra Kumar (Beur)—were also removed on grounds of negligence or pending complaints.
In their place, new officers have been appointed. Bihta Inspector Mohd Sajjad Gaddi will now serve as SHO of Pirbahor, while Kumar Roshan (Pataliputra) has been moved to Sultanganj. Abhay Kumar Singh (Patrakar Nagar) will head Kankarbagh, Manjeet Kumar Thakur (Khusrupur) takes charge of Chowk, and Rajiv Kumar from the Special Intelligence Unit has been posted at Beur.
The police headquarters has also deployed 11 additional inspector-rank officers from other districts to Patna in an effort to improve law and order in the city. However, some of the transferred officers have been previously embroiled in controversies—including departmental action for liquor-related misconduct and hosting unauthorised gatherings.
