Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) will conduct a special cleanliness and drain-cleaning campaign across the city until June 15 to strengthen monsoon preparedness and prevent waterlogging in vulnerable areas.
The decision comes after several ward representatives and residents reported irregularities and incomplete drain desilting work despite an earlier deadline of May 31. Civic authorities had planned to complete all pre-monsoon drain-cleaning operations before the onset of the rainy season.
Complaints Trigger Fresh Action
Mayor Sita Sahu has directed the Municipal Commissioner to launch the special campaign under the city’s monsoon preparedness guidelines. Residents whose local drains have not yet been cleaned can report the issue to the corporation, which has assured that pending work will be taken up during the drive.
Officials said the campaign aims to address gaps in the existing drainage maintenance programme and reduce the risk of waterlogging during heavy rainfall.
Joint Inspections Across Wards
Under the directive, ward councillors, sanitation inspectors, city managers and concerned executive officers will jointly inspect drain-cleaning and sanitation work in their respective areas.
The civic body has also ordered a comprehensive review of cleanliness and desilting activities in all wards. A joint inspection report bearing the signatures of the concerned officials will be submitted after verification.
Focus on Monsoon Readiness
PMC officials have been instructed to regularly monitor the campaign and ensure the quality of work. The corporation said its primary objective is to improve the city’s drainage infrastructure before the monsoon and provide relief to residents from recurring waterlogging problems.
The special drive is expected to continue until June 15, with civic teams working to complete pending drain-cleaning operations across the city.
