Patna: Strong winds and heavy rain disrupted traffic movement in several parts of Patna on Friday morning after trees and large branches fell on roads across the city.
The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) said emergency response teams were deployed in multiple areas to clear roads, remove debris and manage waterlogging following the sudden change in weather.
Roads cleared in Nutan Rajdhani zone
Officials said several major routes in the Nutan Rajdhani zone were affected after trees and branches fell during the storm.
Areas including Haj Bhawan, Patel Golambar, Chitkohra bridge, Buddha Marg, Veerchand Patel Marg, Gardanibagh Road No. 1, near Lekhakar Bhawan and Mauryalok complex reported disruption in traffic movement.
PMC teams used JCB machines and wood-cutting equipment to remove debris and reopen roads. Officials said most routes were cleared within around an hour. The forest department was informed for removal of larger trees.
A team of 10 workers, assisted by six JCB machines and wood cutters, carried out the operation.
Relief operations in other zones
In the Pataliputra zone, branches fell on roads in Chhajju Bagh, Buddha Marg and Rajvanshi Nagar areas. Municipal teams deployed JCB and Bobcat machines to restore traffic movement.
In Kankarbagh, a large tree fell near Avadh Apartment in ward number 46. Officials said the tree was cut and removed safely using wood-cutting machines.
Similar clearance operations were conducted in the Bankipur zone, including Baldev Sahay Road, Congress Maidan, Khetan Market, Kazipur Road, NIT campus and NIT Ghat Road.
No complaints related to fallen trees or branches were reported from Patna City and Azimabad zones, officials said.
Water drained from low-lying areas
The civic body said drainage operations were initiated immediately after rainfall began.
Despite nearly three hours of heavy rain, officials claimed waterlogging in most areas was cleared within about an hour due to advance preparations and rapid deployment of personnel.
A 10 HP pump set was installed near Gate No. 3 of Gandhi Maidan to remove accumulated water, while super sucker machines were used in the Dariyapur Gola area.
Municipal workers also cleared garbage blocking drains near the Bailey Road flyover to prevent water accumulation on the stretch.
Teams remain on alert
The municipal corporation said emergency teams across all zones have been placed on alert in view of the monsoon season and the possibility of further adverse weather conditions.
Officials said the focus remained on minimising inconvenience to residents and maintaining smooth traffic movement during heavy rain and storms.
