Patna: Patna is gripped by fear and anger after the suspicious death of a 17-year-old student who was preparing for the NEET medical entrance exam at a coaching institute in the Phulwari Sharif area. The tragic incident has shaken families across the city, especially those who send their children to coaching centres with hopes of a better future. Since the news broke, people have been gathering in large numbers, demanding to know how a young student could lose her life under such mysterious circumstances.
On Friday, the situation turned tense as local residents and students blocked the road near the AIIMS roundabout to protest against the incident. Traffic came to a complete halt, and long lines of vehicles were seen on both sides of the road. Some protesters also set fire to objects at a few places, adding to the chaos. Police quickly reached the area and tried to control the crowd by talking to them and clearing the road. Extra police forces were deployed later in the day to prevent further trouble, and a heavy police presence remains in the area.
The victim’s family has alleged that she was murdered and thrown from the fourth floor of the coaching institute. They say that when they saw her body, there were several injury marks, which made them believe that it was not an accident or suicide. Former MLA Gopal Ravidas met the family and supported their demand for justice. He asked the government to arrest the accused within 24 hours and to form a judicial inquiry, saying that there is no trust in a police-led investigation. His statements have further intensified public pressure on the administration.
Taking the matter seriously, Patna’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Kartikeya Kumar Sharma, visited the spot and directed officers to speed up the investigation. Police are now checking CCTV footage from nearby areas and collecting technical evidence. The body was sent to AIIMS Patna for a postmortem, which was conducted by a medical board. Officials have said that the report will come in three to four days and will help reveal the real cause of death. Until then, the city remains tense, waiting for answers and hoping that the truth will soon come out.
