PATNA: Patna Women’s College celebrated Holi with a dance competition themed Colours of Joy on Thursday, bringing together students for a vibrant display of culture, music and festive spirit at the college sports ground.
The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the Holika pyre by Vice-Principal Dr Sister M Tanisha A.C., alongside jury members and cultural coordinators, marking the symbolic start of Holi Milan celebrations on campus. Nine student groups participated, presenting performances inspired by regional Holi traditions from across the country.
Participants danced to popular Holi tracks including Holi Khele Masane Mein, Phagunwa Mein Rang Ras Ras Barse and Holi Ke Rang Mein, blending choreography with colourful costumes and thematic storytelling. The jury panel comprised assistant professors Kamaljeet Kaur (Economics), Tulika Kumari (Geography) and Anisha Singh (English).
Addressing the gathering, Kaur highlighted the cultural and emotional significance of colours in everyday life and encouraged performers to align costumes more closely with the essence of their chosen songs. A message reflecting Holi’s spirit of harmony and renewal was also delivered by Dr Smita Kumari, dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and head of the Sanskrit department.
Announcing the results, Vice-Principal Tanisha A.C. praised the students’ creativity and dedication. Code 04 (Mixed Group) secured the first prize, while Code 07 from the Department of Education placed second and Code 02 from the Department of History finished third.
The programme was held under the supervision of Principal Dr Sister M Rashmi A.C. and coordinated by cultural organisers including Dr Sister Celine Crasta A.C., Puja Kumari and Enakshi Dey Biswas. Student council members Riya Nagvanshi and Megha Kumari hosted the event, while Vaishnavi, joint cultural secretary, delivered the vote of thanks, concluding the celebration.
