Patna: The aquarium at Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park is set for a major overhaul as part of an ongoing modernisation project across the zoo campus. Officials said the facility will be upgraded with digital systems, redesigned tanks and new visitor information tools aimed at improving both animal care and public access to educational material.
The renovation comes alongside the installation of five additional self-service kiosks at the zoo’s entry gates. The move follows a trial run of two machines, which the administration said received positive feedback from visitors seeking faster ticket purchases.
Digital Aquarium Upgrade
Zoo officials said the existing aquarium structure has become outdated and requires significant refurbishment to meet current operational standards. The revamp will include reconstruction of fish tanks, installation of modern lighting systems and improvements to water treatment infrastructure.
Digital display boards will also be placed throughout the aquarium. These boards will provide details about different fish species, including their habitat and geographical origin. QR codes will be integrated into the displays, allowing visitors to scan and access more detailed information on their phones.
New Technology For Fish Care
The upgraded aquarium will also include automated environmental systems to support aquatic life. Officials said advanced filtration, automatic temperature regulation and energy-efficient LED lighting will be introduced as part of the redesign.
The administration said the changes are intended to create a more suitable habitat for fish while also making the aquarium more interactive for visitors, particularly students and families visiting for educational purposes.
More Kiosks At Entry Gates
Separate infrastructure changes are also planned at the zoo’s main entrance. Two kiosk machines were recently installed on a pilot basis at Gates 1 and 2. After reviewing their use, the zoo management decided to increase the number of machines before the peak visitor season.
According to officials, four more kiosks will be installed at Gate 1 and one at Gate 2 in June. The machines are expected to reduce waiting times by allowing visitors to purchase entry tickets without standing in long queues, especially during weekends and public holidays.
