Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has kicked off a state tour of Bihar, amid the build-up to the 2025 assembly elections, blending election campaigning with the celebration of one of the region’s most revered festivals, Chhath Puja.
On Thursday, PM Modi visited Samastipur and Begusarai districts, beginning the day by garlanding the statue of former Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur in Karpoori Village, Samastipur, and meeting his family members. He later addressed supporters at a public rally in Begusarai.
Ahead of the festivities, PM Modi posted an emotional message on social media platform X, urging devotees to share Chhath Puja songs. “Chhath, the grand festival dedicated to nature and culture, is approaching. Devotees across Bihar and the country are already preparing for it with devotion. The songs of Chhathi Maiya further enhance the grandeur and divinity of this sacred occasion,” he wrote, promising to share them with the nation in the coming days.

PM Modi has consistently highlighted the importance of Chhath Puja, a festival celebrated with devotion across Bihar. This year, hundreds of special trains and air-conditioned buses have been arranged to help devotees travel from Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and other states to participate in the festival.
During his visit, PM Modi’s campaign rhetoric also intertwined with the festival atmosphere. He suggested that the enthusiasm of the people in Bihar indicated a strong mandate for the BJP-led NDA in the forthcoming elections.
